Private Residence, Newmarket – Plaster Ornament

Whilst a large proportion of my work is stonecarving, the design and modelling skills required for this are transferable to other mediums, in this case the internal plaster decoration for a new-build classical mansion near Newmarket. The main entrance hall is lit by an internal skylight which needed the addition of an ornamental scheme to relieve the stark verticality of its shaft-like volume and to provide a central feature over the grand cantilevered staircase below. In close collaboration with both Client and Architect, I prepared the design drawings before modelling in clay and casting in plaster. I am currently working on further reliefs due to be installed in some of the panelled rooms  in the form of drops and overdoor panels.
