The Marsh Award for Traditional Building Skills

On May 5th 2011 at a reception held in the august surroundings of Lord Burlington’s Chiswick House, Dr Brian Marsh O.B.E. presented Tim Crawley with a cheque for £1000 as the winner of the Individual Award for Traditional Building Skills. The Marsh Christian Trust describes the purposes of its Awards Programme as follows; “The Awards seek to recognize unsung heroes who all aim to improve the world we live in. Recipients of Marsh Awards range from scientists working in conservation biology and ecology, to authors and sculptors from the art world…. In an age of computers and advanced science, the importance of more traditional skills can go unnoticed. Working with both English Heritage and Construction Skills (the Award for Traditional Building Skills) recognizes an individual craftsperson for their work towards the conservation of historical buildings and ancient monuments”.

The citation for this award reads “Tim Crawley won the Marsh Award for Traditional Building Skills Individual category for his impressive high calibre of design, modelling, stonecarving and installation work on various building and restoration projects.
The diversity of the different projects meant that he had to have an understanding of different styles and periods. Tim’s skills and extensive research into his projects made him stand out and he was unanimously voted the 2011 winner.
